Premise: Artists will spend the day outside in Fountain Square creating a work of art from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. At 3 p.m. the artwork will be submitted for judging by a panel of experts.
Media: Any media, two-or three-dimensional. Artists must bring their own supplies.
Subject: No restrictions other than it must be appropriate for public presentation; Masterpiece in a Day is a family-friendly event.
Prizes: Judges will select three award recipients, 1st place receives $1,000, 2nd place is awarded $500.00 and 3rd place receives $200.00.
Entry: All entrants must sign in the day of the competition. Work must be completed in Fountain Square between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and must be submitted no later than 3:30 p.m. All artists must transport their work to the judging site.
Judging: Winners will be selected by a panel of three judges. Additionally, judges will choose 25 works to be included in a show of Masterpiece in a Day participants.
Display: Winning entries will be placed on public display – location TBD. Fountain Square Arts Council will photograph and publish all works selected, and retains the right to display or sell copies of these works, and to use them for promotional purposes. Proceeds from the sale will fund subsequent years’ Masterpiece in a Day activities.

Music
Premise: Participants will be randomly paired from the registration pool. Team members will use their talents to collaborate and prepare a three-minute performance. While not required, both team members are strongly encouraged to perform.
Subject: Music should be inspired by Fountain Square and other events of the day. This is a family-friendly event; performances must be suitable for public presentation.
Prizes: Prizes will be split by the winning team members. First prize is $500.00. Second prize is $300, and third prize is $200. The winning duo will be asked to perform at an event TBD.
Entry: All entrants must sign in between 9 and 10 a.m. the day of the competition. Teams will be announced starting at 10. Teams must work outside, in the Fountain Square commercial district. Performances must be ready for presentation by 3 p.m.
Performance: Each team is required to perform onstage. All performances will be recorded. Fountain Square Arts Council retains the right to display and sell recorded copies of these performances, and to use recorded performances for promotional purposes. Proceeds from the sale will fund subsequent years’ Masterpiece in a Day activities.

work of prose from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. At 3 p.m. the writing will be submitted for
judging by a panel of experts.
Theme & Subject: The theme for this year’s contest is “Chance
Encounters.” On the morning of the show, three elements (see list below) will
be chosen at random. Writers must embrace and incorporate these three elements
into their prose. Part of the judging process will look at how much
significance the elements play in the piece. Someone who merely mentions an
element in passing will receive a lower score than someone who makes the element
an integral part of their piece. This is a family-friendly event; subject
matter must be appropriate for public presentation.
Prizes: Three awards will be given. 1st prize will be $300, 2nd prize will be $150, and 3rd prize will be $50.
Entry: Entries must be limited to less than 1000 words. Computers/printers
will be available (901 Shelby Street), but writers are encouraged to bring
their own laptops if possible. All work must be revised into legible typed
form. Writing must be completed during the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the
Fountain Square area. Writers must submit their completed work before 3:00 p.m.
More formatting information will be provided on the day of the show.
Judging: Writers will be judged on uniqueness of subject
matter, general quality of writing, and incorporation of the chance elements. Names will not appear on contestant’s poems and prose so as to assure
objectivity by the judges.
Chance Encounters: At 9 AM, three narrative elements will be chosen at
random from the following list (one element from each category):
Display: A collection of the pieces will be assembled and displayed along
with the winners of the Masterpiece in a Day Art Competition. Fountain Square
Arts Council retains the right to display and sell copies of these works, and
to use them for promotional purposes. Proceeds from the sale will fund
subsequent years’ Masterpiece in a Day activities.
