Masterpiece in a Day 2008 Art Competition Guidelines
Competition begins at 9 a.m. when artists sign in and pick up their form.
All artwork is due to the judging area at 1106 Prospect Street at 4 p.m.
Be sure to leave your entry blank below attached to your work.
Registration ends at 10:30 a.m.
Winners announced at around 5:30 p.m. at the performance stage. Stay to claim your prize.
Top three pieces will be on display at Alchemy Art + Aesthetics in Fountain Square in October. Any sales of these pieces (if the artists chooses to price them for sale) goes to the artist less a 30 percent gallery commission.
All other pieces must be taken away after the announcement. No work can be left behind to pick up later. We are not responsible for any loss or damage to artwork.
You must be 18 or older to be eligible for prizes.
Younger artists are welcome work on their art in the neighborhood but can’t be awarded prize money for legal/tax reasons.
You are required to work in the Fountain Square commercial district.
Any media or style is fine, two-or three-dimensional (this includes video and photo).
Bring your own supplies.
Try to work outdoors but you are encouraged to work indoors in designated locations if weather dictates.
You’ll have to find your own access to power if needed.
Entrants may compete in only one art category. Only one entry allowed.
Artists must transport their work to the judging site.
Categories: Representational and Non-Representational. You choose; but judges or organizers may overrule your categorization if they feel your choice is in error.
Prizes: First is $1,000, second is $500 and third is $300.
Judging: Winners will be selected by a panel of seven judges: Robert Meko of Alchemy Art + Aesthetic in Fountain Square, Greg Brown of Utrillo’s Gallery, Dan Thompson of SubSurface, local artist Judith Levy based in the Harrison Center for the Arts, local artist and Herron High art teacher Trevor Renwick, Nicole Yalowitz of Herron School of Art and Sarah Adams of AV Framing Gallery in Fountain Square.

Competition begins after pairings at 10:30 a.m.
Musicians must register.
Performers should be ready at 3:45 p.m. at the performance stage for the contest.
Teams will be randomly paired from the registration pool. You’ll use your talents to collaborate and prepare a 3-minute performance. Both team members must be part of the performance and should be as equal as possible in their participation.
Songs don’t have to be of any particular style, don’t have to have vocals.
You must be 18 or older to compete.
You are required to work in the Fountain Square commercial district.
Any instrument is fine. Please notify us of special technological requests. We will not supply instruments.
We will have mics on the stage, electrical and ways to plug into the p.a.
Subject: It must be appropriate for public presentation; MIAD is a family-friendly event.
Songs should reflect the spirit of the Fountain Square neighborhood and the event but doesn’t have to be a documentation of it.
Have fun. Be creative. Be innovative.
Prizes (for each member of the duo): First is $700, second is $300 and third is $150. Teams should be present to claim their prizes.
Judging: Winners will be selected by a panel of judges still that are being finalized and include Ryan Williams of IndianapolisMusic.net, Leslie Benson of NUVO, Ray Mills of Nice Guys Finish Last music collective, Andy and Annie Skinner of A Squared, and more TBA.

Competition begins at 9 a.m. with registration open until 10:30 a.m. Writers must check in at the contest headquarters near the fountain.
Work is due back at contest headquarters by 3:30 p.m.
After you turn in your work stay for the music contest. Winners announced there at about 5:30 p.m.
You must be 18 or older to compete.
All writing, prose or poetry, must be less than one page in length. It can be single spaced.
You are required to work in the Fountain Square commercial district and shouldn’t leave before turning in your work.
All entries must be typed. A computer lab is available at the Fountain Square Center at 901 Shelby – a block north of the fountain.Be sure to sign up for time in the lab. It will be open from 12:15 until 3:15 p.m.
Personal laptops are fine. Bring your own disk that can be read in the lab to print out work
Be sure to print off two copies, one with your name on top and one without your name. Then, email your poem or story to art@bigcar.org if it is OK for us to post it online.
Any poems or stories that are to be posted online must be emailed to us. We won’t retype.
The contest is open to both poetry and prose, to fiction and nonfiction. It has only one category: writing. No preference will be given to poetry or prose.

Display: Winning entries (top 3) will be on display at Alchemy Art + Aesthetics along with the winners of the art contest. Winners will also be posted on www.bigcar.org.
