Red Lion Grog House brings the flavor of England to Fountain Square INDIANAPOLIS – Fountain Square’s international vibe is even more vibrant with the recent opening of the Red Lion Grog House. The restaurant and bar has a distinctly British flavor with an American twist.
Owner Wally Bolinger was inspired by the classic "grogs" of England - seedy watering holes for the unkempt, with shabby surroundings and dirt floors. But the Red Lion is far from shabby. “It’s more about being comfortable,” says Bolinger, “we’ve created the American Grog – a sophisticated, English-inspired restaurant with five-star food and impeccable service, all in a place with a true ‘neighborhood’ feel.” The Red Lion isn’t a sports bar, but you can watch a game on one of the big screen televisions. They will also offer live entertainment on select evenings. At the Red Lion, the food is the star. The menu offers pub favorites like bangers & mash, fish & chips, and ploughman’s lunch, along with soups, salads, burgers, and sandwiches. For the heartier appetite, entree selections include shepherd’s pie, chicken tikka masala, and “Grandma’s Meat Loaf.” For starters, choose from fried pickles, Scotch eggs, or toad in the hole. In early April, the Red Lion will begin serving domestic and imported beer, as well as small - and unique - assortment of fine wines. The draft lineup includes Carlsberg Lager, Coors Light, Fuller’s London Pride, New Castle, Smithwicks, Strongbow Cider, Sun King Cream Ale, Sun King Wee Mac Scottish Ale, with additional selections available in bottles or cans. The Red Lion, located in the Murphy Art Center at 1043 Virginia Avenue, is open Monday-Thursday 11-10, Friday and Saturday 11-11, and Sunday 12-10.
